grrrrrrrrrr.....

Somebody on My Space now using me name, Guyana Gyal, to carry on with whatever they does carry on with there. Heaven knows what they do elsewhere, using that name. I so vex me words chack up in me trote.

Is one o’ them things about me fellow country-folks that does make me fume, we thief ideas, copy other people, too much too much. I ain’t know where along we history we erase we originality.

Back to work again, rain pouring, I should dash outside with me new lemon-tinted see-through umbrella...maybe everybody gon copy me and do rain dances for countries with drought...

I have checked out My Space for other gigies and all I found was noise and naked women...
So, Gigi I am afraid you have lost me unless your blog starts showing....photos....of your....see-throughs...

...

Umbrellas, that is...

The word verif was WIKDA...Moi?

The only way out of copying, plagiarism, imitation, is to be even more original than you have been. It's the lot of all great brands. The worthy'll recognise the true G.G. (N.M.) from he pseudo G.G.. For my own part I have not changed my name. I know my so far very low audience, by far, does not compare with yours. Lawsuits may be wastes of time, energy and money.

Oh How Very Annoying. I confess I find the whole My Space thing very annoying, but not as annoying as I would find having my name nicked and used on there. They better not try it or I'll, I'll, er, dunno

DaveM said...

Shame you cant copyright a name GG. I will have to check out Myspace now. New territory for me. They may have your name but they wont have your style.

Guyana-Gyal said...

The person doesn't have a site, as far as I know, Davem. But he or she uses my name to converse, and the photo...ewww.

Zin, I don't know much about My Space, but the nicking of my name, grrrrr. It's typical of my fellow countrymen though. Can't strain the brain to be original.

Ah non, Louis, pas de lawsuit, that's for folks who make $$$. I read your blog once in a while...I see you have quite a few now but my French is soooo terrible...

You mean you found the site with the noise and nekkid wimmen, Cream? You're good :-) wikkida than I thought. I'm glad you didn't find the fake Guyana Gyal.

How irritating of them! I hope it is not done with malice.

sablonneuse said...

I'm not even going to look for the fake when the real Guyana Gyal writes so well.

Michelle said...

That sucks!

I've had a poem stolen and other people saying they wrote it. Never sued anyone, but kind of yelled at a few via email! There's still one on a private website that I can't get to to yell at. :-(

I knew a Santeria priestess once. Scary lady, but times like this I think she'd be more useful than a lawyer!

Hope the fake GiGi has all her underwear shrink three sizes. Nothing hurts a woman more than an "I'm -too fat for my clothing!" curse. ;-)

Guyana Gyal,

If you want I can send my posse over there and do them a thing, you know.
Just say the word, and a whole heap of Jamaican bad man will shop up on the doorstep and show them what we do to tief!

Cho, man!

Blessings,
Geoffrey

lol! Geoffrey, this is why I'm your friend because I don't want any trouble. :)
GG, I don't care what! You are the original Guyana-Gyal. People should search the net before they go choosing a name. Peace~

I think what this shows more that brand management and the web is a whole nodder ball game.
Then again, maybe, just maybe you're over reacting a bit.
I mean, it's not like the people patronising this blog are likely to be the same who would that myspace page (if the one I saw is the right one - http://myspace.com/guyanagyal) anyway.
However, if the page/person you're referring to is pretending to be you by saying this site is theirs and by posting some of your stuff on their myspace then thats something else.

Even so, it might not be something you might want to worry yourself about. Every politician and musician in Jamaica has a hi5 or myspace page that supposedly belongs to them that actually doesn't. It's just the work of a fanatic or someone with way too much time on their hands.

My opinion: wait and see and don't get too mad just yet.

Eh eh, wha kind of eye pass is dah?

Sorry GG, but you will always be the original!

This is Ml...blogger is being stupid today!

Ri said...

That is not even a knock off, that is a non-event - they cannot hold a candle to you, GG.

Ariel said...

Time for some re-branding as, wait for it, the Real Guyana Gyal?! The other is just plastic.

Hayden said...

last year a blogger I read routinely had someone nick BOTH his name AND his stories! Very ugly scene ensued...
some people are nuts. I guess it's a compliment, but who needs it?

Cream said...

You should change your name to G.G.G.
Genuine Guyana Gyal....

kfm said...

haha..nice one cream...

yo! waaddduuup...gez wha..ah plenti peeps gat de name..me chek am

Kat Campbell said...

Posers! They can try, but there will only ever be one real GG.

cadiz12 said...

that is irritating. but never fear, gg. when you make it big, then people will see her for the poser that she is, and then make her change her name to something like guyana a. gyal or something.

i have a friend who, when .coms became cheaper, went out and bought all the variations of his name. he doesn't do anything with most of them, but he just likes that no one else can abuse them.

Mr Farty said...

Chill, GG, it's no big deal...unless someone does that to me!

Peter said...

so imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but originality can never truly be copied - they just don't have the same essence that makes it unique - you.
Any publicity is good publicity..
Let the fake GG do some more free work for you over there at MySpace and then real fans will seek out more and find the real "thang" here at Blogger...
Thanks for being the firt Guyanan to my blog...

The thing that troubles me the most is the stealing of material. We ain't got nooooooo proper copyright laws here.

Piracy is RAMPANT.

Local musicians complain. Other creative folks complain.

Our Min. of Culture hasn't so far shown that he understands the role of art, creativity, thought, in our developing country...how then can he understand the need to impose stricter copyright laws?

I wonder if he's read anything on the history, development, role of art?

GRRR.

Caribbean Colors said...

We could use some rain here, send me some. We're experiencing dry tides with our well now.
Piracy is rampant here also, although there's honor amongst theives, they only pirate foreign imported music, they really really really encourage you to buy local music originals. People do the same thing here in Caye Caulker, if one business looks like its doing good, others try and copy it.
Myspace is a majorly annoying to me also, and I avoid it at all costs, although Supergirl has a page and her blog is progressing quite nicely, when she has enough posts, I'll add it to my blogroll.
Back to the copy cats. I've dealt with my share of copiers, a sternly worded letter stops 95% of them.
One consolation though, if you've come up with one idea, you can come up with another one and another one. That's the great thing about being a creative person is you don't have to copy any of them.

Hi G.G.
That sucks as you are an original. Funny, when I first found your site, I did a search for Guyana Gyal and came up with Guyana Gal, well it turned out to be family of mine with the Guyana Gal site. I was hoping for some juicy stuff but she stopped writing. I wonder if it is one in the same. I will check it out on my space. Copyright it or something--trade mark. take care. dawn

Mad Bull said...

Sorry to hear about that! Still, there are so many people who could consider themselves to be "guyana gyals" that it had to happen. It would have been nicer if they just tacked on a number to the end or sup'm so though.
I don't think its deliberate, after all, the myspace site I went to seems to be run by a 14 y.o. Probably might not even know about your blog.

Jdid said...

I had a similar experience when someone I knew started using jdid on msn and other places. I told the guy in no uncertain terms it was getting me vex but he didnt want to drop it.

as for myspace i still trying to figure out the real purpose for that site, that an facebook. cant understand why people find them so exciting but then again I blog and people may say they dont understand why

GG are you serious? your name is not unique in the slightest bit, Gyal is a common word in Guyana isnt it?
Well i was refered to as Guyana Gyal about 15 years ago, it was a common nickname around my peers who were from other parts of the Caribbean. If you had a more unique name i would see your point but really its like saying you own the words Guyana and Gyal LOL
we all know Guyana has more than one Gyal
i think i'll become Guyanese Gyal now to be grammatically correct.

Guyana-Gyal said...

Well Anon, before I started blogging, I googled the name and no-one in the Blogosphere had that name, that's why I chose it. And up to this day, I've never met anyone living here who has that nickname. After a year or two of blogging...well...

In advertising, a word, a name can be around forever, then someone stamps their brand on it...and it becomes new to the world.

Symbols too...symbols can be around forever then someone puts his/her brand on it.

For example, the Nike swoosh. Teachers mark our books with that 'tick' don't they?

Here endeth the lesson in advertising, hehe.

Nah, I don't think I 'own' anything. I just am tired of copycats here...if you lived here you'd know what I'm talking about.

Anonymous said...

GG, i understand what a copywright is you dont need to explain it to me, have you registered Guyana Gyal as yours?
IF so then its legally yours, otherwise you're just another Guyana Gyal. If you think its yours that still doesnt make it yours. you actually have to register it as yours, copywright it, patent your brand.. the nike Sooosh is a logo for a company, its not just about the words but the way it is presented (picture) as well.

Guyana-Gyal said...

Copyright.

Can't be bothered to check copyright laws blah blah blah, I'd have to get up and find the darn book.

Nope. I ain't just another.

Are we having fun yet? :-D

Anonymous said...

of course we are having fun GG.
I remember chatting with several "Guyana gyals" on that CariWeb chat 10 (thats right 10) years ago. there was Guyana Gyal and GuyanaGyal 1-5 etc. All i'm saying is, your name is not that unique, in fact it is very common in the Creole language, so i dont understand why you are so miffed someone else in the blogworld has the same name. Now a name like Ninny Hammer is likely to be a bit more Unique :-) I'm just messing with you GG but you know i do have a point. This reminds me of my mum sharing her prized curry recipe with the women at a jhandi and then she got upset when they cooked the curry like she did. I know its not the same it just reminds me of it...

Guyana-Gyal said...

Thank you for letting me know that there are others with this name.

As I said, I didn't know this until you said so: 'before I started blogging, I googled the name and no-one in the Blogosphere had that name, that's why I chose it. And up to this day, I've never met anyone living here who has that nickname.'

Thank you too for giving me the opportunity to understand a bit more about human nature and myself, in relation to others.
